9. The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

Original release date: The second LEGO Movie was released in theaters on Feb. 8 2019.

Box office earnings: The pressure was on for the second movie, and sadly, it didn’t quite meet expectations. With an estimated $99m budget, it only made $34m at opening weekend. It would go on to make $192m worldwide.

Critical acclaim: While critics enjoyed the movie, audiences didn’t as much as the first one. However, I will say that many children absolutely adored it. Part of the problem was it just didn’t quite meet the standards or the surprises of the first movie. It was nominated for a variety of awards, but nothing too major.

About the role: Chris Pratt returns to voice Emmett, the “hero” of the LEGO characters. He also takes on the voice for Rex Dangervest, who happens to have a much deeper story. It turns out Rex is a future version of Emmett.

Why it’s the best: We loved Emmett the first time. He’s a happy-go-lucky guy who just wants to live life the way that it is. During The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part, he wants the world to be a happy place again, but that means making more sacrifices to protect the world against the Duplo invasion.

At the same time, we get a character that we know we can’t trust but we don’t understand why. It’s a fun ride to see Rex’s secrets unfold.
