8. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Original release date: In Tokyo, the movie opened on Apr. 10, 2017. It wasn’t until May 5 that the U.S. got the movie. That’s okay. It was worth the wait.

Box office earnings: There were some high expectations after the first movie, so it wasn’t surprising that the budget for this one went up to $200m. That’s okay because it made $146m back over opening weekend. In the end, it gained $389m from U.S. ticket sales and grossed $863m worldwide.

Critical acclaim: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 wasn’t as successful with the critics and audiences as the first movie. After all, there were higher expectations after the success of the first. However, both still liked it, and it dominated the Teen Choice Awards.

About the role: Chris Pratt returns as Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord. During this movie, he meets his father. All he wants is to fit in and feel like he belongs. It’s a story that captured our hearts in the Marvel timeline.

Why it’s the best: We can understand Quill’s journey throughout this. He’s not trying to prove anything or even wants something unrealistic. It’s something that we all want; to know that someone out there loves us for us.

In the end, we get a story of compassion and heart. Quill realizes that his “dad” has been with him this whole time. Sadly, it’s too late to do anything about it. Who didn’t cry at Yondu’s death?
