Stargirl Season 1 finale: Who or what is Eclipso?
Who or what is Eclipso ready for Stargirl Season 2?
“I know you’re there, Eclipso,” Cindy said at the end of the Stargirl Season 1 finale. Well, at the end of the first of two false endings.
Now the questions surround Eclipso. Who or what is this thing? Will it be the big villain for Stargirl Season 2?
Caution: We’re jumping into the spoilers from the Stargirl Season 1 finale.
After attempting to defeat Courtney and killing her own father, Cindy is on a mission of revenge. It looks like she’ll get that through releasing a new villain called Eclipso.

In the DC comics, introduced in House of Secrets #61, Eclipso is both hero and villain. He’s like the Bruce Banner/Hulk of Marvel in a way, two personalities in one person. The difference is that while both personalities are on the good side in Marvel, Eclipso’s two sides are on opposites. They’re more like Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde than Bruce and Hulk have ever been.
Dr. Bruce Gordon heads to Diablo Island to take a photo of the solar eclipse. While there, he ignores the local people about the god Morphir and offends him. Eventually, Dr. Gordon kills the god. Gordon thinks it’s all over, but the god he thinks he has killed attacks when Gordon is back home. It turns out that this god is Gordon.
It turned out Morphir cut Gordon with his black diamond, releasing Gordon’s worst nightmare. The evil side took the black diamond. That will explain the diamond that Cindy pulls out.
Future comics go into more detail
In future comics, we learn even more about Eclipso. His powers grow from being linked to solar eclipses to being more light focused overall. Then later, we learn that a vengeful spirit had possessed Gordon. It wasn’t Gordon’s evil side after all. This was in the 1992 comic Eclipso: The Darkness Within.
It looks like this may be the version that Stargirl Season 2 is going to run with. Cindy talked into the gem, which would hold the vengeful spirit.
This villain should certainly spark excitement. In DC history, he has possessed Superman of all people. His powers make it possible for the writers to come up with all sorts of fantastical scenes. It will be interesting to see how a CW budget instead of a DC Universe budget will affect the possibilities.
