A Discovery of Witches has released the Season 2 trailer and premiere date

The release date for A Discovery of Witches has been up in the air, as many things have been during this time. Originally expected to air in 2020 it was pushed back to 2021 and now we finally have an official premiere date.

Based on the books by Deborah Harkness, A Discovery of Witches follows the love story of powerful witch Diana Bishop and vampire Matthew Clairmont. While Season 1 mostly took place in modern times Oxford and France, Season 2 will find our characters transported back to Elizabethan London. Except for about two-and-a-half episodes that will focus on the characters in the present day.

A Discovery of Witches Season 2 trailer and premiere date

We’ve been waiting ages to rejoin Matthew and Diana and the wait is almost over. We now have an official premiere date for Season 2! Better yet, the premiere is confirmed not only for the UK but for the U.S. and Canada too!

As you can see in the video below, Teresa Palmer has announced that Season 2 of A Discovery of Witches will be coming to Sky TV in the UK on Jan. 8, 2021. Those in the U.S. and Canada won’t have to wait much longer as it will be coming to Sundance Now and Shudder just one day later on Jan. 9, 2021. That’s amazing news!

On top of that amazing news, we also have an official trailer for Season 2! We can see why Teresa Palmer called the new season “dark” during the NYCC panel, as that’s certainly reflected in the tone of the trailer, which you can view below.

While the trailer is somewhat dark, it still keeps the beautiful aesthetic and magical feel that viewers came to love in Season 1, while also giving us glimpses of new characters like Steven Cree as Gallowglass, Tom Hughes as Christopher Marlowe, and James Purefoy as Philippe. We also get to see Diana’s new teacher Goody Alsop and a new look at some of the gorgeous Elizabethan costumes.

We see in the trailer that Diana’s arrival is expected and her destiny may be even greater than we thought, as the voiceover in the trailer tells us of an ancient prophecy about a witch who will change the destiny of all creatures. Honestly, the trailer has made me even more excited for the new season than I was before and January can’t come soon enough.

If you can’t get enough of A Discovery of Witches and January still seems too far away, then you can watch the cast and crew’s virtual NYCC panel. They give fans a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the show, answer some fan questions, tell funny stories, and reveal what to expect in Season 2. You can view the panel below.

January isn’t too far away now, so thankfully the news of the release date, trailer, and the NYCC panel will have to hold us over until then!
