Shameless Season 11 is including covid into its storyline with a twist

The Gallaghers are back and they’ve managed to survive the coronavirus pandemic on the South Side, as we’ve learned from the most recent trailer released by Showtime. The new trailer gave us a closer look at how covid will be incorporated into the story, but with one big twist.

Unlike Grey’s Anatomy and other popular series that have incorporated the beginning of lockdowns and the height of quarantine into its plot, Shameless Season 11 will dive into what happens once the lockdown has been lifted and cases are decreasing.

Watching our fan-favorite characters face wild and chaotic problems is part of what makes Shameless so entertaining, and we expect the covid storyline to bring more comedy to audiences than stress. In the beginning of the season, The Alibi Room is opening up its doors for the first time! This means we’re going to see Kev, V, Frank and the gang reunite for a pint (or several pints) for the first time in months after quarantine.

We also got a look at what the Gallagher siblings have been up to during the time we’ve been away. Carl looks to be a working police officer ready and Debbie’s started her own small business (which is honestly what’s she’s been doing since Day 1) as a home repairwoman.

Ian and Mickey are working through what they want their marriage to be like, and Lip seems to be focused on scaring away potential residents. The funniest part of the new trailer? Veronica using a bat to separate a fight between Mickey and Ian in the bar.

As they navigate the changes from covid, Shameless Season 11 will follow the Gallaghers as they work to keep their neighborhood from being gentrified. As Frank says, “All we gotta do is make the yards dangerous again.” And whether that means picking up some spray paint can, breaking a few windows, or finding other ways to keep new residents out, we’re sure this crew will find a way to get what they want.

Shameless Sundays are back for the last time! Set your calendars because Shameless Season 11 premieres on Dec. 6 on Showtime. In past seasons, the premiere episode has been available to stream earlier in the day (and we’re hoping Showtime decides to do this again as an early holiday present for fans!).
