Why Lisa Kudrow’s favorite Friends episode is so meaningful
By FS staff
Friends is definitely one of the most beloved shows on television to date, frequently ranked among the best sitcoms of all time. And for good reason. The NBC fan-favorite famously ended on a high note after 10 very successful seasons and a ton of awards.
When the popular series said goodbye, it left those at home with many memorable episodes to choose from when it comes to picking favorites, but that’s definitely no easy task.
For those who might’ve missed it, Friends aired from 1994 to 2004 on NBC. The premise follows a group of six friends living in The Big Apple, approaching their thirties, navigating romantic relationships, and endlessly “being there” for each other through good times and bad.
The iconic cast includes Jennifer Aniston as Rachel Green, Courteney Cox as Monica Geller, David Schwimmer as Ross Geller, Matthew Perry as Chandler Bing, Matt LeBlanc as Joey Tribbiani, and last but certainly not least, Lisa Kudrow as the eccentric and lovable Phoebe Buffay.
As reported by Mental Floss, Lisa Kudrow once shared which episode of Friends is truly nearest and dearest to her heart during a Q&A with fans. On Reddit, Kudrow was asked which Friends episode was her all-time favorite. With oh so many memorable episodes to choose from, the actress still knew her answer without a doubt and it’s a notably special one.
Kudrow wrote:
"The Halloween party that Sean Penn appeared in. For a lot of reasons. Number one was it was the first show we shot after 9/11. And that whole week, while driving in LA, people would pull up, and give me a very sad look, and a quiet ‘thank you’ for making them laugh."
Of course, she’s referring to “The One With the Halloween Party,” which debuted on November 1, 2001. Chances are, Lisa Kudrow is likely not the only one who fondly remembers this episode, the heartbreaking timing of it, and the unique experience shared by the cast because of it.
To this day, Friends‘ ability to touch its audience in a heartfelt way through humor continues, even with the show coming to an end nearly 17 years ago. Perhaps at the highly anticipated and long-awaited reunion, we’ll finally find out some of the other special episodes favored by the Friends cast. With that said, I’m sure it’ll be hard to top Kudrow’s favorite.
Until we get the reunion special, if you haven’t started watching (or rewatching) Friends on HBO Max, what are you waiting for?
