Mackenzie McKee is facing major backlash for comments she made towards Vice President Kamala Harris which people are deeming racist. And now it seems she’s also doing her best to own up to it.

The backlash began after the Teen Mom OG star expressed her not-so-nice feelings for the new VP. According to MeAww, Mackenzie shared a Facebook post in which she outlined the “key reasons” she felt Harris wasn’t a suitable “role model” for her daughters. At the time, she said, “There are a lot of amazing women in the world for my daughters to look up to and see as role models. Kamala Harris is not one of them.”

Needless to say, the sentiment didn’t sit well with many and unfortunately, things quickly went from bad to worse in the comments section.

When one fan seemingly agreed with Mackenzie McKee, the 26-year-called them a “friend” and said, “It blows my mind that out of all the amazing colored women in this world, that is the one who is making history.” The backlash really blew up after that.

As noted by the publication, people began slamming Mackenzie left and right, calling her “racist,” “ignorant, and “dumb.” Some even said her use of words should be definite grounds for firing by MTV. One person wrote, “Wow. If David [Eason] got fired for his comment about gays, Mackenzie needs to be fired for this comment,” and they definitely weren’t alone in that belief.

Inevitably, Mackenzie McKee apparently took notice and decided it was time to speak up. The Teen Mom OG star is now apologizing for her remarks via social media and her choice to use the racist term “colored.”

On Instagram, Mackenzie sent out a mass message claiming she’s been “personally reaching out” to those affected by her “poor choice of words” and her “sad lack of education.”

On social media, some are saying that while Mackenzie’s apology seems sincerely remorseful, it might not be enough for the masses to forgive and forget it. Currently, she is still being slammed for what she said about Kamala Harris, lengthy apology and proclaimed learned lesson aside.

The question is, if there’s enough backlash from this, will MTV fire Mackenzie McKee from Teen Mom OG? Only time will tell, but it’s definitely a possibility.
