You’ve made it through another week and this one just so happens to be a holiday weekend so it may be a little longer than normal if you’re lucky. Many will be hitting the beach or having cookouts, but the sun will go down and you will need something to watch. That’s where we here at Hidden Remote come in to fill you in on the latest Netflix movies and shows.

Netflix has delivered yet again with a diverse selection of new content for you to view. There’s a little bit for everyone from animated films and television series for the kids to bloody horror movies for adults. There is a new anime series this week, a new true-crime documentary, and an adult animated comedy with a Patriotic theme. Netflix is even bringing you an educational musical on the 4th!

Before we get to this week’s shows, let us remind you about the hottest shows and movies from last week. Too Hot to Handle released the second half of season 2 this week and at the time of this writing it sits at number two in Netflix’s top 10.

Liam Neeson’s The Ice Road sits at number four despite terrible reviews, and Iliza Shlesinger’s Good on Paper is holding the final spot at number 10. If you missed those three you might want to give them a look as well.

Now for this week’s best Netflix movies and shows:

New Netflix movies and shows this week

  • The Seven Deadly Sins: Dragon’s Judgement, June 28 (top 10)
  • America: The Motion Picture, June 30 (top 10 movies)
  • Sophie: A Murder in West Cork, June 30 (top 10)
  • Somos (Season 1), June 30
  • Audible (documentary), July 1
  • Fear Street Part One: 1994 (movie), July 2
  • We the People (musical series), July 4

Best show this week on Netflix

One of my favorite things to watch on Netflix is a good true crime docuseries and Netflix delivered another one this week. Sophie: A Murder in West Cork is a 3-part docuseries about a murder in rural Ireland in the late ’90s.

The run-time is less than 3 hours total but it covers a decades-long investigation that rocked a small town and has seen several bizarre twists and turns. Watching the trailer I was reminded of the David Tennant and Olivia Colman show Broadchurch which also featured a shocking murder in a small, seaside town. The tragedy in this story is real, however.

Best movie this week on Netflix

Netflix has taken on R.L. Stine’s “Fear Street” and will be releasing 3 movies with the same cast over the next three weeks. This week’s entry is Fear Street Part One: 1994 and we’ll likely be mentioning the following two parts in the coming weeks depending on the reception. The Horror trilogy features some familiar faces for fans of Netflix shows and movies.

dark. Next. Best movies on streaming and in theaters this weekend

The movie features Kiana Madeira (Dark Matter), Olivia Scott Welch (Unbelievable), Benjamin Flores Jr. (Rim of the World) as well as Sadie Sink and Maya Hawke of Stranger Things. The film is rated R for bloody violence, drug content, language, and some sexual content so do not confuse it for a kid-friendly horror series. If you’re having any sort of get-together and want a movie to watch together at night, this might not be a bad choice.

What will you be watching this weekend? If we left out your pick, be sure to let us know!
