Courteney Cox earns first Emmy nomination for Friends reunion

The Emmy 2021 nominations are in and HBO Max’s special Friends reunion received four nominations. Now, we’re not surprised the beloved series is still scoring major wins, but an Emmy nomination for Courteney Cox is long overdue!

Two decades since its finale and Friends is still being recognized. This is thanks to the HBO Max special Friends: The Reunion, that has brought back all our warm and happy feeling for the longrunning sitcom.

But how is this Courteney Cox’s first Emmy nom for Friends? As her husband Chandler Bing would say, have they NOT seen her performance? Sure, if we had to pick one character as the most popular, I’d say Rachel Greene is the most iconic to most fans — but not all.

Monica Geller is the favorite of many. Her lines are still quotable and there’s a Monica Geller in all of us!

Friends: The Reunion received a nomination for Variety Special (pre-recorded) from the Television Academy, and Cox served as one of the executive producers alongside the show’s creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane, and cast members Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer, and Matt LeBlanc.

It’s a shared win for Cox, but we’ll take it. Still, I believe Cox deserves all the awards for her portrayal of Monica Geller.

How many Emmy nominations did the Friends series collect during its run?

During its original run, Friends gathered a total of 62 Emmy nominations. These include seven Comedy Actress noms for Aniston and six Supporting Actress noms for Kudrow.

LeBlanc was nominated three times in Lead Comedy Actor, Perry once, and Schwimmer once, Variety reports.

We’re not sure how Cox’s performance was missed. This 2021 Emmy nomination is overdue.

Cox has received nominations (and wins) from other award ceremonies, including People’s Choice Awards, TV Land Awards, and Screen Actors Guild Awards.
