This Christmas in July 2021, we’re touching on one of the hottest debates of the holiday season: Is Die Hard a Christmas movie?

Below, we share five good reasons why Die Hard qualifies as one of the best holiday movies.

Let’s begin with the biggest question, what makes a movie a Christmas movie? Is it a Christmas theme? Maybe the holiday spirit has to be part of the script? Nativity scenes, Jesus in the manger, a direction connection to traditional Christmas tales. All of it may be a requirement if your standards are more stringent than most.

Before you think it or say it out loud as an objection, yeah, yeah, yeah, Bruce Willis said it’s not a Christmas movie. We’ll get to that later. There are plenty of reasons why you’re wrong if you’re fighting against the gospel.

Listen, there’s an honest to goodness Die Hard Christmas sweatshirt you can buy. There’s even a children’s Christmas book!

Without further ado, here are five great reasons that should convince even the most hardened skeptic that Die Hard is definitely a Christmas movie.

#1 Die Hard is a Christmas movie because it’s nearly universally accepted

If enough people believe something, it normally becomes accepted as canon. That’s the same for Die Hard being a Christmas movie. It’s so widely accepted that it’s not really worth the debate. Some will argue, however, and they’re wrong.

Some of the biggest authorities online agree Die Hard is a Christmas movie. Ranker ranks the action classic as the 12th best of all time. A little low if you ask me. Esquire ranks Die Hard at 22nd, which is criminally underrated.

The editorial board at Rotten Tomatoes places it at the 11th best. Yet another list that inexplicably doesn’t rank this masterpiece in the top 10. Hell, Screen Rant had to create a special rule just to keep Die Hard from dominating the rankings. Even with all the Haterade in the rankings, the fact remains it’s on the list.

What else could possibly be needed to qualify Die Hard as a true Christmas movie? If the experts and the majority of the population agree it counts, then it’s difficult to argue against.

Die Hard is a Christmas movie because it is.
