Halloween weekend has arrived! It is the last weekend of October so that means the weather is getting just a little bit colder, the days are shorter, and you may be making more plans to stay in. If so, you need good streaming options for your weekend and we’re here to provide you with the best new Netflix shows and movies.

This week’s list is not long but does bring one big film, a big series, and a few hidden gems. The only thing we don’t have for you this weekend is a new kid-friendly entry. With it being Halloween weekend you would expect there to be a lot of horror options but there are just a few new entries that fit that bill.

If you do need additional options there were a few great releases last week. Three series’ that were released last week still find themselves in the top 10 Netflix shows and movies. They are adult animated series Inside Job, children’s animated series Maya and the Three, and teen fantasy series Locke & Key. All are solid options and to give you another horror option, Night Teeth is a top three movie coming into the weekend.

Now for this week’s list:

New Netflix shows and movies this weekend

  • Sex: Unzipped (special), Oct. 26
  • Hypnotic (movie), Oct. 27
  • Nobody Sleeps in the Woods Tonight 2 (Polish movie) Oct. 27
  • An Astrological Guide for Broken Hearts: Season 1 (Italian) Oct. 27
  • Army of Thieves (movie), Oct. 29
  • Colin in Black & White: Limited Series Oct. 29

Best show this week

The best show this week is the limited series Colin in Black & White. The story is narrated by Colin Kaepernick and written by Ava Duvernay (Selma) who also directed an episode. Robert Townsend (The Parent Hood) directed two of the 6 episodes so there are a lot of known names attached.

The story follows Colin in his high school years and is meant to show the events that led up to him becoming an activist. Colin also serves as the narrator for the series. Of the new Netflix shows this is certainly one worth checking out.

Best movie this week

Finally, the movie of the week is Army of Thieves. Serving as a prequel to the Netflix hit Army of the Dead, Army of Thieves takes us back six years prior to the events of the first movie. Safecracker Dieter (Matthias Schweighofer) is working at a bank before being recruited to join a bank heist team.

The time period that the film is set is supposed to be the early days of the zombie apocalypse where things have not spread outside the United States yet but the rest of the world is beginning to brace for what’s to come. Banks are scrambling so it’s the perfect time to prey on them. Scheweighofer actually serves as director for this entry.
