We are flying through December and this is a big week. Not for Netflix necessarily but it is Spider-Man release week so that is the talk of the entertainment world. However, if you’re not into superhero movies or don’t want to go out to the theaters, you may want to know what’s new on Netflix. So we’re back with another list of new Netflix movies and shows to watch this weekend!

This week’s list is shorter than the ones I usually bring you but there is a bit of variety here so I hope you’ll appreciate that. Three of the six entries are movies and you get a good bit of reality tv as well as a major fantasy series in this week’s entries.

To supplement this week’s list I want to make sure I tell you about some great releases from last week that should be on your list. A good animated movie (since this week is light on them) is Back to the Outback, which is currently among the top five Netflix movies and shows. Number one on the list, at the time of this writing, is the Sandra Bullock film The Unforgivable. A great drama that will keep you guessing until the end.

Now for this week’s entries!

New Netflix movies and shows this week:

  • The Hand of God (movie), Dec. 15 (Italian)
  • Selling Tampa: Season 1, Dec. 15
  • A Naija Christmas (movie), Dec. 16
  • A California Christmas: City Lights (movie), Dec. 16
  • The Witcher: Season 2, Dec. 17
  • Singles’s Inferno: Season 1, Dec. 18

Best show to watch the weekend of Dec. 17

Toss a coin to your Witcher! I think the choice here was obvious. A show featuring an actor like Henry Cavill playing an iconic character is hard to beat. The first season was raved about and the second one is being raved about by critics as well.

The second season of The Witcher will also be 8 episodes long. Cavill was desperate to land the role when he heard the series was being created and he has been tremendous in living up to it. Both fans of the books and games are enjoying this series so this is likely just the beginning.

Best movie to watch the weekend of Dec. 17

The best movie this week was a bit of a tougher question. There are two very Christmasy movies on the list but I am not quite in the Christmas spirit yet. That leaves just one, the Italian movie The Hand of God. Coming from BAFTA award-winning director Paolo Sorrentino, The Hand of God has amazing reviews thus far.

The story follows a boy growing up during a tough time in Naples during the 1980s. In this coming-of-age story, the main character experiences a series of highs and lows in a way that reminds us how life changes when we are least expecting it. Reading through the reviews you’ll see the word “masterful” used a lot and that is a testament to Sorrentino’s storytelling ability.

What will you be watching this weekend? If we left out your pick, be sure to let us know!
