In need of a great horror movie? marks the spot! Ti West gets back to his horror roots with movie, a slasher-thriller with plenty of spooks and gore to satisfy fans of the genre. also gives horror fanatics plenty of easter eggs as the movie pays homage to horror classics.

Even though takes place in 1979, the theme feels very modern. It offers many familiar vibes, mainly Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but with a twist. And please don’t think we are referring to Netflix’s Texas Chainsaw Massacre (aka the worst horror movie I’ve seen in ages)! I’m talking about Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 movie.

In Ti West’s movie, we meet Wayne (Martin Henderson), a strip-club owner with big dreams and ambitions in the porn industry. Wayne decides to shoot a porn movie, believing that watching porn in the comfort of your own home is the way of the future. For the job, Wayne brings along his girlfriend Maxine (Mia Goth), and friends Bobby-Lane (Brittany Snow) and Jackson (Scott “Kid Cudi” Mescudi), to star in his movie The Farmer’s Daughters. Wayne is serious about this project, hiring newbie filmmakers R.J. (Owen Campbell) and Lorraine (Jenna Ortega), R.J. also serves as the writer and director of the porn movie.

And since you can’t film The Farmer’s Daughters without actually being at a farm, Wayne rents a farmhouse in rural Texas owned by an elderly couple who are staying in the house directly across. The elderly couple are unaware of what the film crew is there to do, but they’ll learn soon enough. Before the crew even gets one good night sleep, horrors are unleashed.

X movie rewards horror fans with entertaining kills and slasher thrills

Now, I’ve always said that a good horror movie either takes its time in getting to the action or jumps right at us from the start, there’s no in between. movie does the former. takes its time getting to the carnage (and it is soooo worth the wait!), focusing on introducing the characters and featuring them having a good time, allowing viewers to see how these happy, unsuspecting folks have no idea the nightmare that’s around the corner. And bonus: audiences also get a dose of comedy as they wait for the horrors, we even get a song from Brittany Snow.

Brittany Snow, Martin Henderson and Kid Cudi are amazing! Cudi, in particular, is brave and fearless in the right moments, but a jokester when he has to be. But the real standouts are Jenna Ortega and Mia Goth.

Jenna Ortega is the next scream queen. She’s a brilliant actress and I loved her in Scream 5 and her screaming scene in is a winning shot! The star of the show, Mia Goth, takes on the role of both wannabe famous Maxine, and Pearl, the old lady in the farmhouse. Goth is unrecognizable under all of that make up, but it doesn’t stop her from killing the part, no pun intended!

After we settle in during the first part of the movie, the heavy gore is unleashed and we are rewarded with entertaining scenes of horror and unique kills — make sure you catch that

The Shining

moment!

Ti West’s movie is rated R for strong sexual content, graphic nudity, gore, drug use, language, and strong bloody violence. It is in theaters Friday, March 18, with screenings beginning as early as Thursday night.
