The Winchesters has the Supernatural fandom abuzz. The pilot for the spin-off is yet another attempt by The CW to franchise this hugely popular and beloved drama. They haven’t struck gold but they keep trying. Perhaps this spin-off will be the one to finally get a series order.

The show, which has had mixed reactions from fans since its announcement, will transport viewers back in time to when Mary and John Winchester were young adults. As such, there’s a definite danger of canon being overhauled. That’s a prospect that won’t bother viewers who are new to the Supernatural universe but will likely upset fans of the original series.

Still, no one knows much of what to expect from The Winchesters beyond an epic love story, demon fighting, the fact that it’s a supernatural period piece, and that it’s certain to take the universe its set in toward a new direction.

Here’s information on the cast along with character descriptions to get a picture of what the spin-off could offer to its potential audience.

Character descriptions

Mary Campbell is 19 years old and already she’s world weary. You can blame it on being raised as a hunter. Tragedy tends to be the name of that particular game and when Mary loses someone she’s close to, she decides she’s had enough of the hand she’s been dealt. But, before she can walk away from the organization, her father goes missing and in strolls John. It’s a situation that sets her on the path to lead her own team, whether she wants to or not.

John Winchester is newly back from Vietnam and he’s already looking for a new mission to throw himself and his heart into. When his father’s past leads him to the hunters, a whole new world opens up for him. One that’ll see him once again in the middle of a war.

Millie Winchester is a tough, hard-working woman. She’s had to be considering her life. What she’s never wanted, however, is for her son, John, to take after his father so much that he goes looking for danger. Unfortunately, no matter her worries, John is going to do what he feels is right even if it puts him at risk.

Latika Desai has a brilliant mind, it’s what’s been getting her through her training as a hunter despite the fear she feels is holding her back. With her research and problem-solving skills to guide her, she’ll come to see she’s braver than she thinks.

Carlos Cervantez is a natural born fighter. His confidence in the field has seen him and the team through tough situations. Carlos’ positive attitude and easygoing personality brings the kind of lightheartedness that his team desperately need as things grow dire.

Ada Monroe is a bookshop owner with a predilection for the occult. She is both studious and sharp.
