Sonic 3: Is a Sonic the Hedgehog 2 sequel happening? When would Sonic 3 be coming out?

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is now playing in theaters and it is being praised by critics and audiences. Needless to say, Sonic 2 is THE movie to watch this weekend. That said, will there be another sequel due to its success? Is Sonic 3 happening? If so, when is Sonic 3 coming out? Here’s what we know!
The memory of the first image of Sonic may still haunt our dreams, but the team behind the magic truly surprised us with a realistic Sonic and a super fun movie. The final moments of Sonic the Hedgehog teased the arrival of Tails, so we knew the possibility of a sequel was high. Now, what about Sonic 3? Spoilers ahead if you have not watched the second movie in theaters.

Sonic 3 release date predictions
The credit scene during the Sonic 2 credits feature Shadow, another very popular character in the Sonic-universe. Is Shadow the next big thing in the movie franchise? It sure does look like it! A third movie has already been confirmed, along with a TV series featuring Knuckles on Paramount+, who we meet in Sonic 2, voiced by Idris Elba. When will Sonic 3 be arriving in theaters, is the question.
We know that Sonic 3 is “in development,” so the early stages. And there is almost always a year between two movies. That said, we won’t be seeing it until early to mid-2023. The release date would also, ideally, not clash with the premiere of the Knuckles series, which we still don’t know much about. As soon as we have an official date, we’ll update this post!
