Who plays Phillip on This is Us? (Who is Kate’s husband?)

This is Us season 6 episode 12 officially marked the end of Kate and Toby. We found out why the couple just couldn’t make it work, no matter how hard both of them tried. It just wasn’t meant to be.

Katoby fans of course are devastated. I wish they had built this up a bit more in previous seasons and hinted at it earlier. It just kind of felt like their issues came out of nowhere in this last batch of episodes of the final season. But whether we like it or not, this is the path the show has decided to go down.

This is Us is known for representing different families and life challenges. This was one of them. The show portrayed divorced couples who can successfully co-parent together. And like Kate said, just because they’re divorced that doesn’t mean it’s the end of their story. Eventually, both Kate and Toby find happiness again with other people while the two remain close friends.

For Kate, she finds love again with Philip. We knew back in the season 5 finale that she was going to get married again and the lucky man is Philip. Last night’s episode gave us some more insight into the British music teacher and he shared his own loss and pain. So who’s the actor behind this character?

Who plays Kate’s husband Philip on This is Us?

This is Us tapped Chris Geere to play Philip, aka Kate’s husband. The British actor graduated from Guildford School of Acting in England and began his career on stage opposite Judi Dench. He got his breakout role in America as Jimmy Shive-Overly on FX’s comedy, You’re the Worst. He’s also starred in the live-action film Pokémon Detective Pikachu, and recurred on ABC’s Modern Family as Haley, then Alex’s love interest Professor Arvin Fennerman.

After appearing as a recurring guest in season 5, Geere was upped to series regular for the sixth and final season of This is Us. Yesterday’s episode isn’t the last we’ll see of him. Next week’s episode is going to show us Kate and Philip’s wedding. And now that we’ve reached this point, I’m sure he’s going to continue being a fixture in the final episodes.
