The Patient, starring Steve Carell as therapist Dr. Alan Strauss, has finally made its land on Hulu!
The ten episode thriller puts Alan in a very precarious position. Not only is he a victim of kidnapping, but he also has to navigate the tenuous tight rope of keeping his captor from committing murder. See, as the title of the show suggests, it’s Alan’s patient who took him.
Who is this patient? Sam Fortner, a serial killer who reached out to Alan for assistance. At the time, Alan wasn’t aware of Sam’s less than savory activities. He finds out the hard way, when he’s taken from his home and kept in his patient’s basement.
The twist in this story, however, is that Sam really does want help. In his mind, Alan’s the only one who can keep him from killing again. He doesn’t want to murder people, his compulsion is not one he enjoys. But, if Alan can’t help him, Sam will kill again and his next victim might just be Alan himself.

Who plays Sam on The Patient?
Domhnall Gleeson plays Sam Fortner. Fantasy fans may recognize him as Bill Weasley from the Harry Potter film franchise and General Hux from the Star Wars sequel trilogy.
According to IMDb, Gleeson’s most recent TV role, besides The Patient, was in 2021 as Doofus in the Prime Video series, Frank of Ireland. The show starred his brother Brian Gleeson, the two men are the sons of actor Brendan Gleeson.
The Irish can next be seen in The White House Plumbers, a series about Watergate, which is expected to premiere later in 2022. Gleeson will play John Dean. Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, Lena Headey, Kiernan Shipka, and Kathleen Turner are also attached to the project.
