Heading into the 74th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, there were few shows getting more buzz than ABC’s breakout comedy Abbott Elementary and the woman behind TV’s greatest comedy!

Not only does Bruson star in the series as one of its breakout performers in the role of Janine Teagues, but she’s also the creative force behind the series as its creator, writer, and executive producer!

Set at the fictional Abbott Elementary in Philadelphia, the series follows a group of teachers in one of the worst public schools in the country, brought together by their love of teaching.

The mockumentary sitcom has made Brunson a household name thanks to her status as the breakout creative force behind the series, but how has that success translated in the awards circle — primarily when at the Emmys?

Ahead of the 74th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards on Sept. 12, Quinta Brunson had not yet secured any Emmys; however, that changed when she took home her first Emmy win during the night’s telecast. So as of 2022, Bruson has 1 Emmy win.

While Brunson was sadly overlooked in the Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series race and Abbott Elementary did not win the Outstanding Comedy Emmy, Brunson managed to walk away with her first Emmy with a win in the Outstanding Writing For A Comedy Series category. The Emmy recognized her work for the pilot episode of Abbott Elementary, a show we have a feeling will eventually net Brunson more Emmys in the future!
