East New York’s leading character is Regina Haywood, the newly promoted boss of the 74th precinct in East New York – a working class neighborhood on the edge of Brooklyn. The neighborhood is on the midst of social upheaval and the early seeds of gentrification.

Since the deputy inspector has family ties in the area, she is even more determined to come up with creative ways to protect her beloved community. She hopes to do this with the help of her officers and detectives. But first, she has to convince some of them that her ideas are a step in the right direction as some are skeptical of her promotion, and others resist the changes she’s trying to make.
