Is Dune: The Sisterhood a movie or series on HBO Max?

Even before the movie Dune: Part Two is done filming or released, HBO Max already has another chapter ready to be told in the franchise. Dune: The Sisterhood, which stars Emily Watson and Shirley Henderson, will be coming to our screens. But is the project a movie or series?

Joining the two actresses onscreen are Indira Varma as Empress Natalya, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina as Princess Ynez, Shalom Brune-Franklin as Mikaela, Faoileann Cunningham as Sister Jen, Aoife Hinds as Sister Emeline, Chloe Lea as Lila. Mark Strong as Emperor Javicco Corrino, Jade Anouka as Sister Theodosia, Chris Mason as Keiran Atreides, and Travis Fimmel as Desmond Hart also star, Deadline reports.

So will we be able to watch the production on the big screens, or is it coming to streaming?

The Dune films are based on the book franchise by author Frank Herbert. After the novelist passed away in 1986, his son Brian Herbert and author Kevin J. Anderson took over and wrote a number of prequel and sequel novels to continue the story in the universe.

Currently there are two films – 2021 movie Dune, as well as another in the works called Dune: Part Two. Both productions star actors Zendaya and Timothée Chalamet. The second movie is set to be released sometime in November 2023.

So is Dune: The Sisterhood also a film? Actually, no! The HBO Max project will be a prequel television streaming series. We don’t have the release date or episode count yet. But, we have an idea of what the show will be about!

Deadline shares the spin-off series is set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides. The series follows Harkonnen Sisters, Valya Harkonnen (Watson) and Tula Harkonnen (Henderson). The two will combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect, the Bene Gesserit, according to the news outlet.
