Why is The White Lotus season 2 rated TV-MA?

What’s next at the White Lotus? The HBO series The White Lotus is heading into its highly anticipated second season on Oct. 30.  For those who haven’t seen the show yet before it starts airing on the cable network, it takes place at a resort where vacationers are meant to relax in paradise. Though, as the days go by, darker experiences emerge emerge and the once idyllic hotel turns into a setting for confusion and chaos amongst the travelers.

The first season had a large ensemble cast led by actors such as Connie Britton, Sydney Sweeney, Steve Zahn, Lukas Gage, and Murray Bartlett. The second season is led by the series’ familiar favorite, Jennifer Coolidge and Jon Gries who reprise their roles from season 1. The new season brings about some new characters played by Theo James, Meghann Fahy, Aubrey Plaza, Will Sharpe, and many more. The show is known for its dramatic twists and turns which makes for a edge-of-your-seat mystery thriller experience but this also begs the question, is this show meant to for younger viewers?

The White Lotus season 2 age rating

The official MPAA age rating for the season is TV-MA which is equivalent to an R rating. It’s intended for audiences 18 and over. It is recommended that children under the age of 17 should not tune in to watch.

The series features a lot of sexual imagery. In the past season, viewers saw full-frontal male nudity as well as profanity which is used heavily throughout the series. There is also some graphic jokes about sex that make its way into the storyline. Drug use is also present including ketamine aka horse tranquilizer and viewers have seen two of the teenage characters vape marijuana and use the aforementioned drug. Expect that to show up in the upcoming season as well.
