Friends fans are happy Matthew Perry is back at the center of the spotlight again to promote his new memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing. The tell-all just hit bookshelves on Nov. 1 and is an in-depth look at his experience with fame, his romances and relationships with fellow celebrities, and his years-long struggle with addiction.

Perry leaves nothing to the imagination as he details losing his virginity, admits he had a crush on Jennifer Aniston, and even makes strange comments about Keanu Reeves (the latter of which he’s already backtracked).

If you’re a diehard fan of the NBC sitcom, we’d recommend you check out Perry’s book as he talks about many moments from his time on set. And while he speaks lovingly about his Friends co-stars, there’s another former castmate he actually shades. That would be Salma Hayek, who he starred opposite in the 1997 romantic comedy Fools Rush In.

Matthew Perry didn’t like Salma Hayek’s acting techniques

In his book, as reported by Entertainment Weekly, Perry recalls meeting Hayek on set, which marked his first big movie role. The actor had ideas on the acting strategies to use to bring his character to life, while Hayek had a different plan.

“Salma had tried her best, too — she came into my trailer at the start of the shoot and said, ‘Let’s just spoon a little bit,'” Perry says. “I did my best Chandler impression — the double-take-and-sardonic-stare thing — and said, ‘Oh, OK! Let’s just spoon a little bit!'”

Perry goes on to write that “her long-winded ideas weren’t always helpful,” explaining:

"“There’s one scene in which I’m professing my love for her. She suggested that we don’t look at each other — rather, we should look out at our future together. After listening to this nonsense for about twenty minutes, I finally said: ‘Listen, Salma,’ I said, ‘I’m telling you I love you in this scene. You look wherever you want, but I’m going to be looking at you.'”"

People on social media are a bit annoyed with Perry for calling out Hayek like this, even though we doubt he meant to come off offensive. Over on Twitter, Entertainment Weekly’s post about the book excerpt has tons of replies, most criticizing Perry.

“Sounds like his memoir will just be all about his grievances with others,” one person

tweeted

, while another

wrote

, “So like, does he ever talk about himself in this memoir?” A third

added

: “He’s becoming very unlikeable.”

When Perry first announced his memoir, he

promised fans that “it’s all in here,”

which we now know to be true! The actor has a very dry sense of humor, so perhaps that’s just not translating on paper for many readers. To see for yourself,
