What is Blockbuster about?

The show, created by Vanessa Ramos, stars Randall Park plays Timmy Yoon, the manager of the last operating Blockbuster Video, Melissa Fumero plays Eliza Walker, Timmy’s long-time crush and an employee at the store, Tyler Alvarez plays Carlos Herrera, a young employee at the store who dreams of being a director, Madeleine Arthur plays Hannah Hadman, another young employee of the store, and Olga Merediz plays Connie Serrano, an older employee. Recurring roles include J. B. Smoove portrays Percy Scott, Timmy’s best-friend and the landlord of the strip-mall the store is located in and Kamaia Fairburn who portrays Kayla Scott, Percy’s daughter who works at Blockbuster.

The show centers on Yoon, who operates the last Blockbuster Video store in the United States. After hearing the abrupt news, Yoon and his employees have to fight to stay relevant. The show offers a dramatized version of what it must’ve been like for employees due to the mass closure of the video store across the nation. For former Blockbuster video patrons and the current generation of movie watchers who only know about the streaming industry, this could educate the two generations of movie lovers and bring together more understanding about the history of at-home movie viewing.

All ten episodes are available to stream now on Netflix.
