We’ve gotten a lot of great shows in 2022, from House of the Dragon to The Rehearsal and everything in between. As for the horror genre, there’s been a handful of awesome series to watch in 2022, including Interview With the Vampire on AMC, the latest season of Stranger Things on Netflix, and HBO Max’s Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin, just to name a few. Looking ahead to 2023 and beyond, however, there’s reason to be excited as we’ll be seeing the premieres and returns of so many horror titles.

We’re breaking down the horror shows to watch and the ones you can skip in 2023 and beyond.

Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches

Anne Rice’s Immortal Universe continues in 2023 with its second series, Mayfair Witches on AMC! The supernatural horror show is based on the book trilogy by Rice and will follow a doctor named Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario) who discovers she’s the heiress to a powerful family of witches she didn’t even know existed. As she learns about the gift she possesses, she also finds out about the dark spirit who is haunting the dynasty and other disturbing secrets.

Alongside Alexandra Daddario in the cast is Harry Hamlin, Jack Huston, Annabeth Gish, Beth Grant, Tongayi Chirisa, Jen Richards, and Erica Gimpel.

The trailer for Mayfair Witches debuted at New York Comic Con this fall, promising an exciting story. I’m excited to get into a new female-led fantasy show, and if it’s anywhere as good as Rice’s latest Interview With the Vampire adaptation for AMC, it’ll be worth the watch!

Crystal Lake

In the time of reboots, sequels, sidequels, and prequels, the idea of revisiting Friday the 13th might seem boring to some. But in my opinion, if it’s done well, it’ll be epic. The slasher franchise started back in 1980 and though there are a few entries in the series that are less-than-stellar, the movies still have a special place in my heart! They’re classics. So when it was announced that Peacock would be bringing back the franchise with a new TV show called Crystal Lake, I was all ears.

According to Variety, Peacock has given Crystal Lake a straight-to-series order, and the new show will serve as a prequel to the films. Bryan Fuller will pen the script and unexpectedly, it’ll come from the studio A24. There’s been a lot of legal issues with the franchise for over a decade now with the original movie’s director Sean Cunningham and writer Victor Miller owning different rights to the Jason Voorhees character and story. As Bloody Disgusting reports, this is likely why the new show will be taking the prequel approach, as Cunningham owns the rights to the adult version of Jason.

I personally am excited to see what A24 and Peacock can do here, and am very curious to see Jason’s childhood play out on screen. Crystal Lake has not started filming yet so we don’t have a release date yet, but this will be one to follow!
