Prime Video is really stepping up its game! While the streamer has always been great about being home to multiple shows and movies that are produced by other companies and networks, the streaming service has been creating a lot of its own content as well. And that extends to Amazon Freevee.

Some great Prime Video Originals include The Peripheral, The Sound of 007, Dwayne Johnson’s upcoming film Red One, and Emmy-nominated series The Boys.

In January 2019, the Amazon-owned IMDb video channel, IMDb Freedive, was launched. In June of that year, the company decided to change the name to IMDb TV. Then finally in April 2022, the channel was rebranded to what we now know it as – Amazon Freevee.

Amazon already has Prime Video, so why does the company have another streaming service? How do the two differ? We’ve got the answer for you below!

How is Amazon Freevee different from Prime Video?

Amazon Freevee is, as its name suggests, completely free! Viewers don’t have to pay anything to watch the content that plays on the service. Though, there are ads of course. There’s a number of movies, shows, and Freevee Originals streaming on the platform.

You can watch content on Amazon Freevee in a number of ways including Fire TV, on your computer, and through the Amazon Freevee channel on the Prime Video app. So what’s the difference between the two?

Really, the free ad-supported video service is for those who aren’t subscribed to Prime Video and don’t want to pay for the streamer. Of course they don’t have the same content. But there’s still plenty to watch on Amazon Freevee if you want to give it a shot!

Deadline reports that a popular Australian soap opera, Neighbours, has been saved by the free streaming service. It’s expected to premiere sometime in the later months of 2023, according to the news outlet.
