Will Smith is ready for his next role, and it’s one that I’m sure will pull on our heartstrings. Emancipation made its theatrical debut on Dec. 2, 2022 and will come to streaming Friday, Dec. 9 on Apple TV+.

The historical action thriller tells the story of Peter (Smith), a slave who escapes using his wits. His faith and love for his family are the driving forces that keep him going as he escapes “cold-blooded hunters,” the streaming service shares.

He will also have to face the “unforgiving” swamps of Louisiana as he makes his way to freedom. The movie is based on the real-life man, “Whipped Peter.” One image of him in 1863 became widely-known with his bare back mutilated following a whipping from his enslavers.

So who joins Smith onscreen? We’ve got the answer for you below!
