If you haven’t watched Survivor 43 episode 12, do not go any further as it landed one of the most brutal gut punches ever seen.

When it comes to Survivor history, it’s pretty clear having a partner-in-crime on the reality TV show is a must. Players have to backstab each other, sure, but there has to be someone they can turn to when the chips are down. In this case, the tightest duo had a gigantic reality check tonight.

After witnessing Karla come after Cassidy in last week’s episode, most of Survivor 43 episode 12 focused on driving a wedge between the once-tight duo. Even on cue, Karla brought herself to tears to try and convince Cass that she didn’t go after her – even though she actually did. To hash things out further, Karla tells her “number one” to go ask Jesse and he’ll tell her she didn’t come after her.

Karla then tells Jesse she should get an award for her tearful approach to winning Cass over, and to have him let her know she never did such a thing. Part of the plan works; Jesse goes to Cassidy and she then asks him about Karla’s intentions. Jesse parts the Karla and Cassidy seas as he states outright that Cassidy is Karla’s target.

With all of this setup in motion, the end of the episode should be clear as day, right? It will either be Karla or Cass going home. It’s that simple. What could possibly go wrong?

Survivor 43 episode 12 has a genius plan overtaken by an even greater diabolical one

As the rift between Karla and Cass grows, and Cassidy wins herself immunity again, Cody comes up with a plan to ensure one of the two still goes home. His approach is next level and proves he’s capable of an incredible game. As Cody and Karla both have idols, Cody presents her with an airtight plan to save both of their advantages for another night.

He tells Karla that they’ll both tell everyone they’re playing their idol. Then, they’ll direct everyone else to vote towards Owen or Gabler. They’ll leverage their idols to direct votes onto other players. No player wants their vote to be wasted on a castaway who plays an idol. Especially important, with only six players remaining, no one wants to be sent home with a single vote with everyone voting for a player who’s protected by a played idol.

Now, the double back on this plan is that Cody is using all of this as a ploy. He tells everyone else to vote Karla, because she’ll feel safe. To make her feel safe, Cody won’t play his idol to ensure Karla doesn’t play hers. Brilliant plan! It’s a genius move, and nothing will stand in the way of this plan, right? Nothing could foil such a great move, that is unless the other players are looking to Jesse as Emperor Palpatine, waiting for the order to write Cody’s name down.

Unfortunately, for Cody, Jesse utters those cold words we all know too well – “Do it!” Cody’s plan is a fantastic plan and it appears that it would’ve worked. However, Jesse did not want to sit next to the person in the final three who knocked out Karla from the game. He feared losing the power position and being considered Cody’s number two, instead of the other way around.

On top of all of that, this turned into a blindside that Cody realized before the votes were cast. Jesse played Cody’s idol for Owen, which then made Karla nervous enough to player her own idol. Once this happened, Cody realized what was happening and it’s a devastating moment to realize and watch happen. Cody’s great move was outdone by an all-time great move.

If Cody had succeeded with this move, it could’ve been an all-time great in its own right, so seeing this ending means that much more for Jesse who orchestrated it. Instead, we witness a crushing loss for one player and another epic plan come to fruition from Jesse yet again. From the tightest duo of the season to a harsh divide and conquer move, Survivor 43 episode 12 hammered home one player’s determination to win the million-dollar prize.

What did you think of Jesse’s move against Cody in Survivor 43 episode 12? Will it backfire on Jesse and make him the ultimate target for everyone else? Did you think Cody’s move was a great plan before it was turned on its head by the Sith Lord? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
