Happy Valley is undoubtedly one of the best British TV shows of all time. Written by Sally Wainwright, the crime drama has seen Sarah Lancashire deliver consistently incredible performances since it began, highlighting what a formidable performer she is, and single-handedly changing the game when it comes to crime dramas.

The BAFTA-winning show ran on BBC One for two incredibly successful series between 2014 and 2016 before it took a lengthy hiatus. That hiatus was intentional, as Wainwright wanted to wait until some time had passed before beginning work on the third and final series.

That third and final series premiered on BBC One on New Year’s Day with an exceptional episode that felt very much like a revival season, picking up years after the previous two series left off. And now it returns with a sophomore episode that is set to pack an equally emotional punch.

Happy Valley series 3 episode 2 premieres on BBC One in the UK on Sunday, January 8 2023, at 9:00 p.m. GMT, airing immediately after a new episode of Call The Midwife.

Both of those shows are among the UK channel’s biggest hits, so it goes without saying that they both make great replacements for the juggernaut Strictly Come Dancing (which just completed its twentieth series prior to Christmas).

Viewers are eager to find out how the critically-acclaimed drama will come to a close, but as Sergeant Catherine Cawood’s story winds down, it’s becoming increasingly clear that it will go out in memorable fashion. And that likely won’t change in the second episode of series 3.
