Gabriela and Jake’s relationship has been a romantic staple of Fire Country since the series began in the fall of 2022. The pair have had their share of bumps. In fact, their first relationship issue was Jake’s struggle to say, “I love you,” after Gabriela said it first. They cleared that hurdle and have been steadily working on their relationship every time they’ve hit a road block.

However, they haven’t been doing so in a bubble of two and the show hasn’t been subtle about Gabriela’s connection with Bode. The two hit it off in a meet cute on the side of the road in the premiere when her car broke down and he helped her fix it. Sure, she pulled a gun on him, but she’d been a woman alone, stranded on the side of the road at night with no cellphone service. She needed to protect herself and he did look like a prisoner in the middle of escaping.

Bode managed to calm her nerves, make her laugh, and get her car back in working order so she could get home safely. He found out that Jake’s her boyfriend in the scene as well, but that didn’t impede his interest in her.

For episodes we’ve seen Gabriela and Bode’s friendship grow past what’s considered appropriate. Bode even stopped calling her because it was bothering Jake and he knew there was more to their connection than they were both letting on to other people. That became obvious to everyone else when Gabriela jumped off a bridge to save Bode in episode 9, “Good Deed.”

How did that affect her and Jake’s relationship? Here’s what we know!

Do Gabriela and Jake break up on Fire Country?

At first, it seemed like Gabriela and Jake’s relationship was solid in episode 10, “Get Your Hopes Up.” They were taking their romance to the next level by moving in with each other. However, it was clear they hadn’t exactly gotten past the Bode sized elephant in the room and instead were operating in denial.

Jake even apologized for making Gabriela’s rescue effort about Bode instead of her being a hero risking her life to save someone. But, by the end of the episode, Gabriela came clean about the feelings she’s been harboring. She did so thanks to a conversation with a burn victim who’d expressed her admiration over Gabriela’s ability to go after what she wants instead of hesitating.

Realizing that she was playing it safe, Gabriela told Jake that she does have feelings for Bode even though she doesn’t want to and isn’t going to pursue a relationship with him. This is not to say that she doesn’t love Jake, she told him again that she does, but she doesn’t think it’s right to be with him while she’s romantically confused. She respects him too much to not be all in with him when he’s all in with her.

So, the two are broken up for the time being. While Gabriela did say that she wasn’t going to end their relationship and then hop into one with Bode, we can’t help but wonder what she’s going to do now that she’s acknowledging feelings she had been repressing.
