The Oscar nominations have been announced, and now we sit and wait for the 95th Academy Awards to grace our screens! The ceremony is set to air Sunday, March 12, 2023 on ABC with Jimmy Kimmel taking on hosting duties.
Each year, movie lovers who are fans of different movies and actors feel their favorite was snubbed. But really, no one has been snubbed by this awards ceremony like actor Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s received a total of five Best Actor nominations, but has only won once. The last time he took a statuette home was in 2016 for The Revenant.
The talented actor is long overdue for another Oscar win! So has he even been nominated this year? We’ve got the answer for you below!
Is Leonardo DiCaprio nominated for an Oscar this year?
The infamous actor has not been nominated for an Oscar this year. But this time, it’s not because the talent has been snubbed once again. The reason DiCaprio is not a part of any of the categories is because he didn’t have a film come out in 2022.
The 95th Academy Awards of course recognize movies that were released last year. The rules for eligibility include a production had to have come out between Jan. 1, 2022 and Dec. 31, 2022. The last feature-length project the actor lead was Don’t Look Up in 2021, which made its theatrical debut on Dec. 10, 2021.
There’s another production the actor has in the works, Killers of the Flower Moon, which is set to release sometime in 2023. So we’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for this film. And since the star is a part of it, I’m sure it will be Oscar-worthy for next year’s awards ceremony!
Those nominated in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category this year are Austin Butler for Elvis, Colin Farrell for The Banshees of Inisherin, Brendan Fraser for The Whale, Paul Mescal for Aftersun, and Bill Nighy for Living.
