In a yearly tradition I hope continues forever, we have a brand new rom-com starring Jennifer Lopez coming to Prime Video in Shotgun Wedding. After last year’s Marry Me, can Lopez strike gold again? I share my review and let you know if the film is worth checking out.

Shotgun Wedding follows the story of a couple’s wedding being hijacked by criminals. While trying to navigate and save their family’s lives, Darcy and Tom begin to realize why they fell in love in the first place. The film was directed by Jason Moore and stars Jennifer Lopez, Josh Duhamel, and Jennifer Coolidge.

The movie begins with us meeting Darcy at the wedding reception and talking to her mom about some issues she’s having with the wedding. Her ex-husband arrives with his new girlfriend making her mad, and she doesn’t love Carol, Tom’s mother, much. Also, things between Darcy and Tom haven’t been great the last few months. Tom wanted the perfect wedding, and Darcy wanted to elope, and this caused some issues between them.

While the duo are fighting, pirates overtake the wedding and start their hunt to find them. Finally, after a hilarious back-and-forth between Darcy and Tom, the pirates are able to get them. However, a little teamwork went a long way, and the duo can break free, but they’re still very much in trouble.

Shotgun Wedding is the perfect date night movie

We’ve seen both Lopez and Dahmel in romantic comedies in the past, but we’ve never seen either play kick-ass superhero-esque characters in a rom-com before. I loved the duo’s chemistry as they played exceptionally well off of each other. They had been here before and it showed with every moment they were together. More on Lopez, she’s just a star that lights up the screen every time you see her. Her charisma is next level and that can’t be taught.

I gathered from the trailer that there would be some action, but you know, it had some brilliantly timed unique kills that are better than half of the horror or action movie kills I’ve seen recently. I give the writers and directors massive credit for their work on these moments. They do a great job of creating a new take on the romantic comedy genre.

Overall, does Shotgun Wedding get a little crazy and over-the-top towards the end of the movie? 100%, but did I love every minute of it? 100%. It’s the perfect rom-com that blends together the action, romance, and comedy together perfectly. Lopez and Duhamel carry this to another level, and I loved it and highly recommended checking it out.
