Australian actress Cate Blanchett is nominated for an Oscar this year, and it really is no surprise! The talent has snagged a nomination for her role as Lydia in Tár in the Actress in a Leading Role category.
The film follows renowned musician, Lydia Tár who is struggling days away from a symphony that will further elevate her career, per the synopsis. It seems like everything is working against her from being able to achieve this. During this difficult time, her adopted daughter Petra becomes a support.
She’s up against some other lovely ladies. Those also nominated for the 2023 Academy Awards are Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough, Michelle Williams, and Michelle Yeoh. The Oscars air Sunday, March 12, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

The Tár actress has won two Academy Awards during her career, and has been nominated a total of eight times. She was able to take home the golden statuette in 2005 in the Supporting Actress category for her role as Katharine Hepburn in biographical film The Aviator starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Her second win was for Best Actress in 2014 for her role as Jeanette “Jasmine” Francis in Blue Jasmine.
Overall, Blanchett is known for her work in independent movies, successful box-office hits, and taking to the stage. In terms of her other Oscar nominations, those were for Elizabeth, Notes on a Scandal, I’m Not There, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, and Carol.
