The Big Ten is one of the biggest and best conferences in college basketball. In 2023, The Big Ten had eight teams make the Men’s NCAA Tournament, led by No. 1 seed Purdue Boilermakers. The teams were announced on Selection Sunday.

The Big Ten tied the SEC with the most teams in the 2023 NCAA Tournament this year. With 16 teams in the league, half of the teams made the big dance. That’s a really good showing for a very competitive conference. The Big Ten has one more team in the field than the Big 12 and three more teams than the ACC.

Here’s the full March Madness bracket.

Big Ten teams in the 2023 NCAA Tournament

  • Purdue Boilermakers (1-seed)
  • Indiana Hoosiers (4-seed)
  • Michigan State Spartans (7-seed)
  • Northwestern Wildcats (7-seed)
  • Maryland Terrapins (8-seed)
  • Iowa Hawkeyes (8-seed)
  • Illinois Fighting Illini (9-seed)
  • Penn State Nittany Lions (10-seed)

Purdue and Indiana are the highest-rated teams from the Big Ten in the NCAA Tournament. Typically, those are the teams that advance the furthest, but we’re expecting a few of these Big Ten teams to pull off a few upsets.

If I had to pick, I would expect to see Purdue advance to at least the Elite 8 in the 2023 NCAA Tournament, but we’ll just have to see how the games go.

Did Rutgers make March Madness?

Unfortunately, the Rutgers Scarlet Knights were one of the First Four Out, which means they were one of the four teams that could have made the tournament but didn’t. Had Rutgers made the tournament, the Big Ten would have had the most teams from their conference make the field compared to the other conferences.

As we learn more about the schedule, date, and times, we’ll update this story with information about how to watch each of the Big Ten teams in the NCAA Tournament this year.
