Update: May 6, 2023 – The 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards are now a pre-taped special instead of a live event.

The biggest moments in movies and television will be honored at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards on Sunday, May 7. The ceremony will take place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. The winners will receive the trademark popcorn statue.

Drew Barrymore was originally scheduled to host the show. However, the actress recently stepped down from the position as a sign of solidarity and support for the strike involving the Writers Guild members. Barrymore may still appear on the broadcast in pre-taped segments that she filmed ahead of time. The daytime talk show host did agree to host the show in 2024. For now, the show will now be hostless.

In the film categories, the biggest prize will be Best Movie. The nominees include Avatar: The Way of Water, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Elvis, Nope, Scream VI, Smile, and Top Gun: Maverick.

On the television side, the top award is Best Show. The nominees include Stranger Things, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Wednesday, Wolf Pack, Yellowjackets, and Yellowstone.

The list of presenters includes Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Ariana Madix, Katie Maloney, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Sophie Nélisse, Stephanie Hsu, Ayo Edebiri, Rachel Sennott, Riley Keough, and Halle Bailey. However, Deadline reports, “a large portion of talent who had been invited to attend — both as presenters and nominees — have pulled out,” due to the strike.

The ceremony will air on May 7 at 8 p.m. ET. The show will also air at 8 p.m. PT on the west coast.
