The Bold and the Beautiful recap (May 22): Hope explains herself

The Bold and the Beautiful dropped viewers back into the middle of Hope and Thomas’ conversation today as the HFTF brand ambassador continued to profusely apologize to her lead designer for her hurtful words. Thomas, however, didn’t hold her feet to the fire. When he told her that it was okay, he meant it. He’s aware of all that he’s put her through and he was never meant to hear her discussion with her mom, so he wasn’t going to hold anything against her.

But Hope couldn’t let it lie. She repeatedly told him that he didn’t understand, that he couldn’t but she wouldn’t quite elaborate on why that was. There were a couple near misses though. Hope nearly let it slip that her feelings on him have changed and that that’s what she and Brooke were arguing about. She also told Thomas that she did tell her mom about all he’s done to be a better man and father. He’s important her and she wants him to be a part of her life for a very long time, and she expressed that sentiment as best she could without crossing the line.

Thomas also had some kind (and over the top) words on how grateful he is to Hope. He’s staked much of his turn around on her forgiveness which opened the door to him getting his job back and being a part of their son’s life in a more fulfilling way. He told her this as he held her hand and looked deeply into her eyes so she’d see his sincerity. This, of course, is not going to help Hope keep it together when it comes to her torn heart.

What happened on The Bold and the Beautiful today?

Meanwhile, across the hall, Brooke was opening up to Taylor after some prodding from her new best friend. Taylor could see something was wrong and she wanted to be of assistance so she got Brooke to talk. The audience knows that the Logan is wary of what Hope confessed to her, but she didn’t share that with her friend. Instead, she said it was about Hope and her partnership with Thomas and then let Taylor give her a speech on Thomas’ progress.

It surprised Brooke to learn that Taylor believes that it’s Hope’s faith in Thomas that is helping to move him forward past his obsession. The bond the co-parents have forged is clearly important to them both, and Taylor is proud of the progress her son has made. What she’s not aware of, which Brooke didn’t share, is that the Logan has been publicly neutral and even sometimes positive about Thomas when secretly she doesn’t think he’s changed nor does she trust him.

She was warning Hope off of him in last Friday’s episode hence Hope’s outburst about his manipulative and unstable nature in order to get Brooke to back down. If Taylor were to become aware of Brooke’s true feelings, the ease between the two would likely strain. But, for now, Taylor’s under the impression that her assurances to her friend are working.

One person who seems to be immune to reassurance is Liam. Once again he and Wyatt talked about the Thope working situation and, once again, Liam admitted that talking to Thomas didn’t help matters because he’s not ever going to believe that Thomas isn’t up to something to drive a wedge between him and Hope. Liam, however, did state that it’s been Hope’s attentiveness that has helped him the most.

Using that as a jumping off point, Wyatt asked Liam if he’s reciprocated any of the attention that Hope has been showering on him. Liam realized that with exception to the one romantic night he’d planned, he hasn’t shown Hope the same devotion that she has him. He plans on rectifying that because he knows that some of her actions have stemmed from her guilty, though he’s assuming it’s about her working relationship with Thomas and doesn’t know it’s actually her feelings for her lead designer that’s causing her to be more passionate and attentive.

Still, Liam wants to show Hope that he trusts her to work with Thomas and he plans on letting that be known through his actions and words soon. Considering the emotions that Hope is going to be coming off of due to her interaction with Thomas that sent her into a panic because she hurt him, it’ll be interesting to see whether or not she’ll be able to focus on her husband.
