Created in 1991, Sonic the Hedgehog is experiencing a resurgence in popularity, so let’s go through all the places you can find and stream the films and TV shows dedicated to the blazingly fast blue hedgehog.

With the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and both Sonic the Hedgehog movies, video game adaptations are a big box office business. Popular with older and younger fans alike, it’s been extremely profitable to put video game IP up on the big screen. With the exciting action, beloved characters, and familiar villains running amok, it’s no wonder one would want to find all the TV shows and movies available on streaming platforms to watch in the comfort of one’s own home.

Where are the Sonic movies streaming online?

The first Sonic the Hedgehog film, starring James Marsden and Jim Carrey (who steals every scene as the villainous Dr. Robotnik) came out in 2020. It was a surprise hit and made a second entry a no brainer. The follow up came out two years later in 2022 and introduced Idris Elba to the cast as the voice of Knuckles the Echidna.

The sequel was again successful enough that we are eagerly awaiting a third installment in 2024. If you wanna catch either film on a streaming service, head over to Paramount+, where it’s streaming for free with subscription. There are also options to rent the films, on Prime Video, Apple TV , Google Play Movies, and Vudu.

Where is the Sonic the Hedgehog show streaming?

If the films don’t scratch your Sonic itch, there are a few television shows dedicated to the video game character. There have  been a total of six, starting in the early 1990s when the games started to be produced.

The most beloved is arguably the original, simply titled Sonic the Hedgehog, which ran from 1993 to 1994 and starred the voice of Jaleel White (best known as his Family Matters character Urkel) as the titular hero. It’s also available to watch on streaming services, and can be seen for free on Pluto TV, Tubi, Prime Video, Freevee, Paramount+, and is available to rent on Vudu.

More Sonic the Hedgehog shows

Netflix is where you can find the other 1990s Sonic the Hedgehog show, titled The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, which ran from 1993 to 1996. It’s also where you can find the most recent adaptation of the video games as a show. Titled Sonic Prime, and rendered in glorious CG animation, it began streaming in 2022 and is currently on its second season. This Netflix iteration of Sonic delves into the Sonic the Hedgehog multiverse created by Dr. Eggman (which is the main villain’s alternative name that’s interchangeable with Dr. Robotnik), and follows Sonic in his adventures to jump through multiple universes to save his friends.

With so many ways to see the films and television shows created from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, you’ll be awash in the speedy blue guy and his adventures. Rarely do we see a video game franchise with such goodwill from the audience, with so many entries in the franchise’s past. And with all the new iterations coming out, it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot of Sonic in the years to come.
