Updated: July 14, 2023 – The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon is coming closer to becoming a reality. So when can you stream it, and who else will guest-star on this anticipated show?

Since the start of The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon has been one of the most popular characters. Played by Norman Reedus, the steely former biker rose up to become a key part of the survivors of this zombie apocalypse. He also had a great relationship with Carol (Melissa McBride) that carried through the show.

Unsurprisingly, a spin-off focused on Daryl is part of the expanding universe of The Walking Dead franchise. In fact, the premiere of Walking Dead: Dead City had a brief 20-second teaser showing Daryl on a boat in the middle of the ocean. That makes it a big deal as fans await more info to come.

TVLine reports the series will premiere on AMC and AMC+ on Sunday, Sept. 10 at 9/10c.

What is the Daryl Dixon spin-off about?

According to the official line from AMC, the series starts with Daryl somehow washed up on the shores of France. As he tries to figure out how to get home, he also sees how Europe has handled the zombie uprising, which should provide some great drama for the series.

"Daryl washes ashore in France and struggles to piece together how he got there and why. The series tracks his journey across a broken but resilient France as he hopes to find a way back home. As he makes the journey, though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan."

Will Melissa McBride be in The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon?

A key question for fans is if Carol would be joining Daryl on his journey. It sounded like the plan was to focus on both of them, only for some sort of conflict to arise and for McBride to drop out. That led to a backlash from fans on the spin-off’s future.

Thankfully, that anger is moot, as it’s been confirmed McBride will indeed be in the series. While AMC didn’t ensure that, Jeffrey Dean Morgan (who plays Negan) showed footage from the set with McBride, who looks perfectly set for Carol.

Obviously, it’s hard to tell yet how Carol fits into the story and if she’ll be joining Daryl on his quest in France, but it will be great to see the couple reunited on screen.

Where was The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon filmed?

It might be expected the production will use some locations in the U.S. or Canada to stand in for France. Instead, the spin-off is indeed filming in the country, with several scenes shot in Paris. It’s likely to use some CGI to show how Paris is ruined thanks to the Walkers, but still filming on location adds to the show’s appeal.

Where is The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon set in the TWD timeline?

It appears the show picks up right after the series finale and at the same time as Dead City. It’s likely more information will come as the series approaches its air date, but it is intriguing how so many TWD adventures take place at once.

Again, AMC hasn’t revealed details on the age rating for the series. However, it’s likely to be the same as other TWD shows, TV-MA. Given the show’s premise, it’ll have grisly stories similar to its predecessors. Series in the franchise are typically for mature audiences due to gore, blood, graphic violence, language, and frightening and intense sequences.
