On today’s episode of The Young and the Restless, Nate Hastings (Sean Dominic) reeled after being fired by Victor Newman (Eric Braeden). Hastings’ character believed that Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) didn’t have his back. She was displeased by her father’s actions and attempted to console Nate, but he had none of it.

The remarkable turn of events shocked everyone but Nikki Newman (Melody Thomas Scott) who knew her husband had been gaslighting everyone for weeks. Victor’s master mind game manipulation had everyone doubting reality, with Nikki fearing the fallout had arrived. Victoria, for one, said that she would not forgive her father for what he did.

Viewers may agree with Victoria, as Victor played off Nate’s previous relationship as his doctor, with memories of the faked death scenario in daytime days gone by. Mamie Johnson’s (Veronica Redd) recent purchase of Victor’s shares of Chancellor-Winters could indicate the Mustache moved that chess piece in the recent past in anticipation of Nate being ousted because he was a better fit with his family’s business. But, while that invented drama was playing out, Chance Chancellor’s (Conner Floyd) life was actually threatened in a different part of town because he was shot in the chest.

What happened today on The Young and the Restless?

This storyline is rather complex, to put it mildly. How does Newman Enterprises manage to progress when the heads of the company are in constant chaos? And a better question plays more directly into something Grossman’s character said.

Adam Newman (Mark Grossman) was opposed to Nate’s idea of creating a cover story through a press release that claimed Victor was taking a leave of absence or a vacation. Adam rightly pointed out that lie would be quickly exposed in today’s super-sensitive media world. So, how is it that Victor has been behaving so bizarrely in public and no one has captured him on video and shared it?

As for Victor’s other hopes, asking Nick Newman (Joshua Morrow) to return to the fold after what just went down was not a great sales pitch and his son appeared to reject it. Meanwhile, due to Nate’s ordeal, he was open to meeting with Devon Hamilton Winters (Bryton James).

Desperation is not a good look for Phyllis Summers (Michelle Stafford), who remains this show’s poor soul. Kudos to the writing staff for presenting real challenges for this character and to Stafford, outstanding as ever, for always meeting them. Her efforts to woo Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian) look desperate. A reunion with Christine Blair Williams (Lauralee Bell) seems inevitable unless there is an unseen twist coming. But what would the benefit of that outcome be?

Devoted fans recall that Chance (then played by Donny Boaz) was shot in recent years, intercepting a bullet meant for Adam, and prior to that was thought to have been dead on two different occasions. Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) learning that her son is shot, might not feel as impactful either to viewers or Genoa City’s newest Police Chief, with the assumption that he’ll be fine. This incident will serve to heighten the growing rivalry between Sharon Rosales (Sharon Case) and Summer Newman Abbott (Allison Lanier).
