3. Bobby and Dianne – Couple’s Choice

Now that was a Couple’s Choice.

The dance genre that so many Strictly viewers struggle with because there isn’t really any rhyme or reason to its existence, the Couple’s Choice is a divisive part of the show (and has been since it was introduced in 2018). But every so often, it produces a piece of beauty. That’s what it did tonight.

Bobby and Dianne had been in the Dance-Off last week, so they needed a powerful performance to bounce back with. They gave us all of that and more in a beautiful contemporary number dedicated to Bobby’s late mother Jade Goody.

Bobby has been a consistently strong dancer, but tonight was really the moment he broke out of his shell and gave us a moment that will go down in Strictly history. He was light on his feet, elegant, refined, and most importantly, expressive within his whole body. This was a moment for him, and for all of us watching him at home, and his partner-work and acting really completed it.

It was stunning, and he and Dianne should be so proud of themselves for gifting us all with such a beautiful performance. Bobby did his family proud.

Our score: 9
