There's so much to love about Will Trent. Ramon Rodriguez shines as the show's quirky, big-hearted male lead, solving cases with unorthodox but effective methods. And for a show that leans heavily into its dark source material, it still finds a way to incorporate humor.
Unfortunately, Will Trent won't grace our screens again until Spring 2027. The show's fifth season will air as part of ABC's midseason lineup. But while Will Trent is special, it's not the only show like it. A slew of shows similar to Will Trent can keep you occupied until it returns.

3. The Mentalist
The Mentalist followed Patrick Jane, a former "psychic" who left his scamming days behind, and used his abilities to help the police solve major crimes. One of those crimes included the murder of his wife and daughter by the serial killer and master manipulator, Red John. Along for the ride was his partner, Detective Teresa Lisbon, and her team, Kimball Cho, Wayne Risby, and Grace Van Pelt.
Like Will, Jane was an extremely observant, sharp character. He examined every piece of physical evidence, including body language and behavioral patterns. His methods sometimes got him into trouble, but they also allowed him to solve cases others couldn't.
If you like Will Trent, you'll like The Mentalist. Both shows explore extremely dark material, but balance it with humor.

2. Elsbeth
Elsbeth follows Elsbeth Tascioni, a smart but quirky attorney who works with the NYPD to catch some of New York's most clever criminals. The character originated on CBS's The Good Wife as a sharp, incredibly intelligent lawyer with a special way of uncovering the truth. Now, she uses her "powers" to solve crimes.
Elsbeth has an eccentric personality. People often need time to get used to the way she presents herself and her unconventional methods. However, both Elsbeth and Will also have a charm about them. They are big-hearted and authentically themselves. Their personalities help them solve crimes, but more importantly, they allow them to connect with others on a deeper level.

1. High Potential
High Potential follows Morgan Gillory, a single mom with a high IQ, who uses her knowledge to help the police solve some of their toughest cases. Her unorthodox methods usually clash with her by-the-book detective partner, but the two have great professional and personal chemistry.
High Potential is a big ratings earner for ABC for a reason. The show has a great cast, including Kaitlin Olson, best known for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The actress shines as the eccentric, witty Morgan Gillory, whose intelligence and style are unmatched. Most importantly, High Potential is cleverly written. It doesn't feel predictable or lazy. Each twist is earned, and the show keeps you invested in its characters.
As a Will Trent fan, you would be remiss if you didn't watch High Potential. It's that good.
