Deadline reports that Abbott Elementary will be bringing on Miranda Cosgrove, Edi Patterson, and Ali Wong as guest stars for the hit ABC series, which just had its season 6 premiere. Their character details and how they’ll fit into the series are unknown, but the names alone have us excited.
Miranda Cosgrove began her career as a child actress on Nickelodeon, co-starring in Drake & Josh before leading iCarly, a role she revisited years later when the series was revived as a more age-appropriate show for Paramount+. In that, she played Carly, a grown-up girl, for three seasons. She’s also played Margo in several Despicable Me movies and appeared in a few Netflix comedy films, including Mother of the Bride and The Wrong Paris.
Edi Patterson is a comedy veteran by now. She has appeared in several comedy shows, including The Righteous Gemstones and Vice Principals on HBO, as well as the movies Knives Out, Violent Night, and more. She’s also a prominent voice actress who has appeared in several television shows, including Infinity Train, The Fungies!, Ten Year Old Tom, The Great North, and Harley Quinn.
Ali Wong is a comedian and actress who has made her mark on shows such as American Housewife, Fresh Off the Boat, Tuca & Bertie, Big Mouth, and more. Most notably, she earned widespread praise for her co-starring role in the first season of Netflix’s Beef, where she earned several accolades for her acting—including a Primetime Emmy Award.
Yes, these picks are honestly some of the best Abbott Elementary could have, and I'm curious to see who they’ll play. They’re all confirmed guest roles, so I doubt they’ll suddenly become recurring players. Still, I can imagine they’d be so well received that they’d become regular characters.
This also isn’t the first time Abbott Elementary has had guest celebrity appearances. In the season 6 premiere, they had several guest stars from the Philadelphia 76ers, including Tyrese Maxey, Jaylen Brown, and VJ Edgecombe. They’ve also had other sports stars appear—including the season 3 premiere guest stars Jalen Hurts, Jason Kelce, and Brandon Graham, all from the Eagles.
Season 5 also featured a major guest star: Kyle Schwarber (and a fun little Phillie Phanatic cameo). It wasn’t one of the funniest moments of season 5, but it was memorable nonetheless.
Aside from sports stars, several other names have appeared. Ayo Edebiri and Taraji P. Henson have had scripted guest roles on the show, where they’ve played recurring characters. On the other hand, several celebrities have just randomly shown up without a real plotline, like Kevin Hart, Bradley Cooper, Devonta Smith, and more.

Who might these guest stars play?
There’s so much room for what these women might end up doing. I personally think one of them might become a teacher, and we might see more of them. In the season 6 premiere, we know there’s no sub for Gregory (Tyler James Williams) and his class because someone tricked him using AI. So we’re looking for a new teacher while he takes on the assistant principal role. That could go to one of these three.
As for the others, I’m not entirely sure. They could be part of the storyline that takes the kids to Disneyland, as the cast was spotted filming in the famous park for its 100th episode (according to Deadline), which is a major milestone. I’m not entirely sure how they end up there, but we’ll see it all unfold this season.
But if one is a teacher and the other is involved with Disneyland, what could the last one be? It seems Abbott Elementary is leaning harder into the district side of things, with Gregory trying to develop a partnership with the superintendent and Melissa (Lisa Ann Walter) becoming a district representative. So maybe they’ll be involved with the district somehow. I would not put it past this show to pull something like that.
Either way, I'm very curious about who these lovely actresses will be playing. And now I know I need to sit down each week to see what unfolds.
You can catch new episodes of Abbott Elementary on ABC every Wednesday.
