There's some exciting news to share about one of Fox's new breakout hit medical comedy-drama series that fans will be especially over the moon about. Best Medicine premiered as a midseason entry in January 2026 and landed its season 2 renewal before wrapping up its first season in April. Thankfully, we won't have to wait until next year to see the next season premiere.
Fox announced its Fall 2026 television schedule in May 2026 ahead of the network's upfronts presentation, and there were some surprising moves to be found. Animal Control moves to Sunday nights, while proven hits like Family Guy, Memory of a Killer, and Murder in a Small Town were held for midseason, along with the highly anticipated new Baywatch reboot.
Best Medicine season 2 premieres in Fall 2026
However, this season, Best Medicine won't also be sitting the bench until midseason. Fox revealed that Best Medicine season 2 will premiere in Fall 2026, opening the Tuesday night lineup at 8 p.m. and leading into Doc season 3. While an exact premiere date hasn't been shared by Fox just yet, we can expect the new season to begin sometime in September 2026. But that's just the start of the good news!

In addition to bringing Best Medicine back for season 2 sooner than next winter, Fox also upped the show's episode count for its follow-up season. When the series was renewed in March 2026, it was reported that season 2 would contain 12 episodes, which was one less episode than its 13-episode first season. There will be a bit more to love when season 2 begins airing.
Dan Harrison, Fox's Head of Scheduling, dropped the news that Best Medicine season 2 will now contain 14 episodes, two more than originally reported and one more than the season 1 episode order. That's great news! But don't hold out hope that the season will later add more episodes and produce a full 22-episode season like Doc season 2.
Unfortunately, Fox doesn't have much more wiggle room on its schedule to expand the order of Best Medicine season 2. With at least four more dramas expected to air at some point in midseason, further increasing the season 2 episode count would risk pushing more of these shows back and interrupting the flow of the network's scheduling throughout the season.
But the fact that the second season increased its episode count at all is something to celebrate. Plus, coming back in the fall rather than waiting until midseason is a wise choice on Fox's part. The series will have the chance to build on its momentum from the first season's success without being away for an extended period of time. That's essential for building longevity.
Kicking off the fall season with Best Medicine and Doc holding down Tuesday nights ushers in what could be a new era for Fox. What's more, the duo's success most definitely sets the stage for the network's midseason drama series — Baywatch, The Interrogator, Memory of a Killer, and Murder in a Small Town — to premiere on perfectly primed and ready launch pad.
Stay tuned for more news and updates on Best Medicine season 2 and Fox's fall season, and make sure to catch up on the medical drama's first season on Hulu!
