On Tuesday, CBS released official photos and synopses for their fall TV shows, including teasers for the season 2 premiere of Boston Blue. The new information confirms the fate of a major character: Detective Brian Rodgers.
To quickly recap, season 1 of Boston Blue followed Danny as he moved to Boston to join the BPD and be closer to his son. As he adjusted to life in New England, Danny and his partner Lena took on a range of cases, from drug smugglers to serial home invaders. The season also balanced crime-fighting with more personal stories, including fallout from Ben Silver's murder and Danny and Baez's long-distance relationship issues.

"When a series of murders begins mirroring the infamous Boston Strangler killings, Danny and Lena race to stop a copycat killer before he strikes again. As panic grips the city, Jonah and Sean, fresh off their rookie year, as well as Henry Reagan ("Blue Bloods" vet Len Cariou), jump in to help Danny and Lena track down and arrest the killer. Also, Danny faces a career-defining promotion while Lena uncovers a lead that could link the attack on Detective Rodgers to a powerful figure."
If you remember, season 1 of Boston Blue ended with a shocking cliffhanger. As the Silvers and Reagans gathered together for family dinner, Lena's boyfriend, Detective Brian Rodgers, was involved in a terrible hit-and-run. As a result, viewers wondered whether the detective would make it out alive or Lena would be left grieving her lover.
Based on the language used in the official synopsis (i.e "attack," rather than "murder"), it appears Brian most likely survived the crash. Further, Lena seems determined to find out who left her boyfriend for dead and bring them to justice. This makes sense given the senselessness of the crime and Lena's love for her former partner.
If we're right about Brian being alive, then season 2 of Boston Blue will have important questions to answer beyond finding the perpetrator. For example, was Brian the original target or collateral damage? How will Brian's recovery affect his relationship with Lena, who is also recovering from a major incident? Is the hit-and-run the first of a series of attacks?
Overall, the season 2 premiere of Boston Blue promises to be quite chaotic, and we look forward to seeing how the writers handle the fallout from season 1 in the opening episode. We also imagine that the attack against Brian might have ripples that will extend beyond the premiere, but we'll see how long that storyline is drawn out across the season.
