Even though it's still the middle of summer, CBS is making sure we're already getting excited for the new fall television season. After revealing the Marshals season 2 premiere date and confirming when the NCIS shows will be back, the network is solidifying the returns for its Friday night block.

In a new series of promotional videos and teasers airing during CBS' summer programming like Big Brother season 28, the network has started to share the premiere dates for some of its most highly anticipated scripted series returning this fall. That includes Boston Blue season 2, which premieres on Friday, Oct. 9, 2026 at 10/9c and the Blue Bloods spinoff's Friday night companions.

Boston Blue, Fire Country, and Sheriff Country premiere dates revealed

Also on Friday, Oct. 9, CBS premieres Fire Country season 5 and Sheriff Country season 2, with the hit firefighter procedural and its police spinoff airing ahead of Boston Blue at 8/7c and 9/8c respectively. All three series are part of the CBS Premiere Week event that includes a full week of season premieres of the network's biggest shows and incoming favorites.

The Boston Blue season 2 promo revealing the premiere date includes footage from the first season as well as clips from the season 2 premiere, which continues after the season 1 cliffhanger. Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) is back, as is Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), who's recovering following getting shot while on duty and grappling with her boyfriend's fate post-car accident.

After its premiere last fall, Boston Blue quickly become one of the new staple dramas on CBS, an inevitable we could have seen coming given the 14 seasons Blue Bloods spent as one of the network's top series. Closing out each week on Friday night, the new procedural is just getting started with what could be an equally long run as its predecessor.

Beyond Wahlberg and Martin-Green, Boston Blue's main cast also includes Ernie Hudson, Maggie Lawson, Gloria Reuben, Marcus Scribner, and Mika Amonsen. The exact episode count for the second season hasn't yet been confirmed by CBS, though it's expected to again have a full season like the first, which contained 20 episodes.

On Oct. 9, fans of procedural dramas will have quite the treat with three hours of back-to-back season premieres, beginning with Fire Country season 5. Unlike Boston Blue, we do know the episode count order for the hit show's forthcoming season. Unfortunately, season 5 will have a reduced order of just 13 episodes. It will be the show's shortest order since season 2's 10 episodes.

Ahead of the CBS Premiere Week, the network hasn't revealed whether Sheriff Country season 2 will follow suit with Fire Country's reduced order with 13 episodes or if the spinoff will once again have a full 20-episode follow-up season. However, we can officially mark our calendars and start our countdown until all of CBS's Friday night dramas return on Oct. 9.
