CBS has given a one-hour season finale to a hit comedy

Fans can expect a supersized finale for this beloved comedy series, which will air later this spring on CBS.

A long-running half-hour comedy series on CBS is getting a supersized finale episode this May, and there's an exciting reason why. The Neighborhood typically airs as a 30-minute sitcom on Mondays and is currently in the second half of its seventh season. Fans were surprised to learn that the finale episode will be twice as long, and it's largely because there's twice as much story to set-up before the fall 2025 television season.

Earlier this year, CBS announced that The Neighborhood was renewed for an 8th and final season. It was also revealed that the series will launch a spin-off show. This means the hour-long season 7 finale will serve two purposes. Not only will it tee-up the new show, but it will also likely leave us with a cliffhanger ahead of The Neighborhood season 8. In an era where successful tv series aren't guaranteed renewals, we're glad CBS recognized that The Neighborhood was deserving of a final season where the creative team could give a proper ending to these characters.

When will The Neighborhood season 7 finale air?

CBS has also confirmed that both parts of the finale will air back-to-back on the same night, Season 7 episode 19 will serve as the first part of the finale. Called “Welcome to Pomp and Circumstance," it follows Tina and Gemma as they plan a joint graduation party for Malcolm and Grover. Then part 2 of the finale event will be called "Welcome to Venice." Setting up the spin-off, we'll see The Neighborhood reverse its initial premise -- this time, Marty and Malcolm will be leaving their parents' home and stepping into a new community together with a familiar fish-out-of-water dynamic.

According to Variety, Marty and Malcolm will find themselves "the newcomers in a neighborhood that’s both close by yet worlds apart: Venice Beach." The spin-off location is far enough away for it to feel like an entirely new world, and yet, its close proximity to the current "neighborhood" means we could very well see fan-favorite characters make guest appearances in future seasons of the series. We can also expect to meet three new characters in The Neighborhood's season 7 finale who will play a larger role in the spin-off show.

The Neighborhood season 7 episode 19 will air Monday, May 5 in its usual 8pm time-slot on CBS. Season 7 episode 20 will then air on the same night at 8:30pm (replacing Poppa's House). The Neighborhood still has several episodes in its cue before airing the hour-long finale.

New episodes continue to air Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, and are available to stream the following day on Paramount+.
