Could LeBron James appear on Abbott Elementary? Quinta Brunson has an interesting answer

If you’ve been watching ABC's Abbott Elementary for the last few seasons, you would know that it’s not rare for a celebrity to pop up now and again. With LeBron James coming to Philadelphia to play for the 76ers, is there a chance that he might appear on the show next?

Abbott Elementary creator Quinta Brunson was asked this question at the very end of an interview with Deadline on the Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet in 2026. Her response? Just a simple mysterious smile towards the camera and a walk away. Which is a lot more telling than anything else. If you want to see the full video, check it out below:

Brunson neither confirmed nor denied—but judging by the look in her eye, I wouldn't be surprised if James somehow showed up in this series, even though the news is still relatively fresh.

The star of the show said herself she’s still adjusting to this news months later and that when it came out, she thought it wasn’t real.

“I couldn’t believe it… I couldn’t believe that happened. You have to understand, I was already excited because we got Jaylen Brown… I was in the middle of a meeting, I was on Zoom, and I saw that news, and I thought it was a joke, because I just could not believe that. I was already in a state of disbelief at that time. The LeBron news still hasn’t truly set in, and I will need to see it to believe it at the opening game. But he is here, and I hear it’s going well, and we love that, and I’m excited.”

Jaylen Brown, for those who don’t know, is another guard and small forward who was traded from the Boston Celtics to the Philadelphia 76ers. LeBron James is usually a starting small forward or power forward, but he has always shown wide versatility, allowing him to excel at several other positions.

Abbott Elementary has had a strong track record of getting celebrities to appear on the show, especially in the Philly sports world. Several Eagles players have appeared, including former center Jason Kelce, current starting quarterback Jalen Hurts, former defensive end Brandon Graham, and current wide receiver DeVonta Smith across several seasons.

Additionally, Phillies player Kyle Schwarber appeared in season 5, and former NBA star Andre Iguodala also had a cameo in season 2. So the sports world is immune to Abbott Elementary.

Brunson has also met LeBron James in person. When it was announced that he was coming to Philadelphia, she shared on her Instagram Stories a throwback picture of her with the iconic athlete (pictured below via X):

James isn’t a stranger to the spotlight, as he’s had plenty of cameo appearances on television shows. Still, oftentimes it’s been through documentaries, reality shows, or voice roles on series like The Simpsons or Phineas and Ferb. However, he's also appeared in live-action roles in movies like Space Jam: A New Legacy and House Party, where he played himself.

Out of every TV show to cameo on, Abbott Elementary makes the most sense. I could easily see him fitting into a role.

If they did want to include LeBron James in an episode, now would be the time to do it. But judging from Brunson’s reaction, we might be closer than we think. Or she’s purposefully just leaving it up in the air to surprise us.

Could James appear in an iconic episode set during season 6? All the theories in my mind are bouncing off the walls. I’m so excited to see what happens next. If we can have an Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia crossover episode, we can make a LeBron James cameo work somehow.
