Thursday nights have become a real hoot thanks to the new Ryan Murphy series Doctor Odyssey. It’s been quiet without the show airing new episodes, and we do have to start this with some bad news.
Doctor Odyssey won’t return with new episodes in January 2025. The show remains on its winter break for some time, making it feel like a difficult and unnecessary stretch. There is some good news about the return, and what this break means for the rest of the episodes.
When will Doctor Odyssey return with new episodes?
The lengthy break was something we were warned about. ABC made it clear before the Doctor Odyssey fall finale that we would have to wait until March for the return. Then the promo for the return made the same thing clear. That doesn’t stop us from being disappointed, of course.
Doctor Odyssey will return on Thursday, March 6. It will continue to air at 9/8c, sandwiched between 911 and Grey’s Anatomy, which will also return on the same date.
When the show does return, there’s a lot to cover with the fall finale cliffhanger. Avery is pregnant, and right now, she’s not all that sure what to do. It looks like she is leaning on keeping the baby, but she also wants to go to medical school. On top of that, she doesn’t know who the father is. It could be Max or Tristan, and right now, Tristan is the one person saying the right things to keep Avery calm.
Why this lengthy break is good for Doctor Odyssey fans
There is some good news that comes with this break, even though it doesn’t seem like it at first. Why is ABC holding off the return when other shows will be back in January? It’s great for scheduling. Like with the delayed returns of Will Trent and The Rookie, delaying the TGIT midseason premieres means that there will be little to no breaks in the schedule before the season finale of Doctor Odyssey.
There are only so many episodes to spread across nine months of programming. That means breaks in the schedule are needed, and a lot of networks opt for an on-off schedule between January and May. It gets annoying for fans trying to keep track. ABC won’t have that issue with TGIT as there are fewer weeks to cover with a lengthy winter break.
Doctor Odyssey will return on Thursday, March 6 at 9/8c on ABC.
