Amazing as it seems, Fire Country hasn’t made a regular cast addition since it debuted in 2022. There have been multiple departures, including the exits of Billy Burke (Vince Leone) and Stephanie Arcila (Gabriela Perez), yet the show has never added a new series regular upon losing key members of its cast. Instead, Fire Country has stuck to the core cast of Max Thieriot (Bode Leone), Kevin Alejandro (Manny Perez), Jordan Calloway (Jake Crawford), Jules Latimer (Eve Edwards), and Diane Farr (Sharon Leone) remain the only regulars.
Granted, the series has featured several recurring characters who have been featured for a season or two and move on. Some can be more prominent but still not actual cast regulars. That will change as, per Deadline, Olivia Thirlby will be joining the cast as a new series regular for season 5.
It’s another key addition to the show, which will also have Eric Guggenheim arriving as the new executive producer and showrunner, replacing Tia Napolitano. The franchise is going strong, with the spinoff Sheriff Country returning for a second season and plans for a medical-based third show.

Per the Deadline article, Thirlby will play Cecilia Jade “CJ” Ryan, “a quick-witted, fiercely independent, blue-collar, decorated urban firefighter who bolted her station house and city for mysterious reasons. After six months on the road, trying to outrun whatever happened, and herself, fate strands her in Edgewater where she crosses paths with Bode. Despite having no experience fighting woodland fires, Bode believes CJ has something to offer Station 42. And despite the serious culture shock, this fish out of water comes to believe rural Edgewater has something to offer her.”
Thirlby had her breakout role playing Ellen Page’s best friend in the Oscar-winning 2007 comedy Juno. She’s added more films such as Dredd, Oppenheimer, and Between Us. In television, Thirlby has starred in Y: The Last Man, Goliath, and Wonder Man.
It sounds like CJ will be a good spark for season 5 (which will have only 13 episodes). Fire Country is home to numerous characters trying to redeem their pasts, and CJ seems to have her personal demons. Bode might see a kindred spirit in her (even if it won’t be romantic) and want to help her out. There will likely be a learning curve for CJ, as her outsider attitude could rub the locals the wrong way.
With a shortened season, Fire Country could use a new regular character to build new storylines and her entry should be exciting. It’s long past time the show got a regular cast member, and Thirlby looks to heat things up well.
Fire Country season 5 premieres this fall on CBS.
