In Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1, episode 10, "A House Divided," the problem that brewed this week was not between Georgie and Mandy but between their mothers, Audrey and Mary.
The irony of the entire situation of the baby's photo album could've been solved with a simple sit-down discussion instead of dragging it on for the whole episode. But that's not how it works in situation comedies, for the material dwells on the humor of the circumstances. Plus, we got to see Pastor Jeff, who used his slightly annoying cheerful personality for humor value and to try to make peace between Audrey and Mary.
Pastor Jeff for all his efforts wasn't the one who corrected the problem, but a reference to Young Sheldon did.
Mary thinks she's righteous on Georgie and Mandy's First Marriage season 1, episode 10
It all began when Mary slipped a photo of her and CeeCee into the latter's album, as there weren't any pictures of her with her granddaughter. To be fair, she has every right to do so, as CeeCee is just as much a part of her as much she is to Audrey. It's how Mary reacted to the dilemma in a religious stance that makes the ordeal a bit on the hilarious side.
The reason why Mary's photo isn't in the album is because she lives a mere 10 minutes away and isn't there at the McCallister house. If the location was such a big deal, why not use Georgie and Mandy's wedding photo in the album?
Mary believes that Audrey's not putting in the photo was intentional, which leaves her in a sour mood toward her in the entire episode. Audrey's no saint either, as she firmly believes she's in the right and is much too prideful or stubborn to see Mary's side. Jim remains neutral about it, primarily when there is an argument.
In good graces, as much as Audrey could muster, she goes over to the Baptist Church where Mary works and apologizes. Any normal person would accept the apology and move on, but not Mary and their bickering stretches on. Pastor Jeff steps in for some counseling, but his method, as pure and intentional as they are, doesn't work, and when you subtract the religious element, you lose hope for a resolution.
The discomfort between their two moms places Georgie and Mandy at odds with each other instead of working together to try to fix it. In fact, Georgie attempted to smooth things over, as he knows it's not a healthy environment for their families. He's also tired of couch-sleeping and watching late-night TV.
As it turns out, Sheldon's lesson of writing down agreements somehow rubbed of on Georgie as he and Mandy wrote out one together. It stipulates when Audrey and Mary could see CeeCee and what the regulations are. Although annoyed by it, the women sign it, and therefore, ending the feud.
Some other Georgie and Mandy's thoughts
- I love how Sears was referenced as it was premiere shopping in th 80s and 90s. I have nothing but fond memories of that store.
- Connor's screentime was minimal in "A House Divided," but he made the best out of it, especially at the end during the portrait session.
- If you've been keeping track, this would have been Georgie's third time of using common sense to keep the peace in his family and work things out.
