High Potential premiere date confirmed and no, we don’t have to wait until the Super Bowl for season 3

While High Potential will be getting the post-Super Bowl time slot, fans won't have to wait until the big game for season 3 to kick off!

When ABC announced that High Potential would air directly after the Super Bowl on Valentine’s Day 2027, many fans worried that season 3 of the Kaitlin Olson-led series would not return until its post-Super Bowl outing. Thankfully, ABC has finally confirmed that will not be the case!

On November 6, ABC became the first network to announce its midseason lineup, including the official premiere date for High Potential season 3. The new season of ABC’s most-watched series will kick off the first week of January with season premiering on Tuesday, January 5, at 9/8c, following the season 5 premiere of Will Trent.

This news is certainly music to High Potential fans’ ears, as it means the new season will literally begin right as 2027 rolls around. Considering we originally expected season 3 to arrive as part of ABC’s fall lineup before the announced move to midseason, we’re definitely happy that ABC will kick off season 3 at the beginning of the year and won’t make us wait until February for the season to begin.

When season 3 kicks off, we’ll finally get the chance to see what happens to Captain Nick Wagner and how the show will handle Steve Howey’s departure from the show. While we know that Howey is leaving the show, we’re hoping that High Potential won’t kill him off so that there is a chance Howey could return in the future when his schedule allows and it makes sense from a story perspective.

Of course, the fate of Wagner is only one of the burning questions we hope to see answered when the show returns.

After two seasons of stringing us along, we’re hoping High Potential season 3 will finally reveal the identity of Roman. That’s a reveal that would certainly be big for the show’s Super Bowl episode, and High Potential could take a page out of This Is Us’s handbook in using its post-Super Bowl episode to give fans the answer to one of the show’s biggest questions.

For This Is Us, that entailed revealing how Jack died, a reveal that made headlines and brought the show a lot of buzz. Given how big the Roman mystery has been, finally pulling back the curtain and revealing his identity in the Super Bowl episode would be a moment that fans would certainly not forget!

We’ll see what the creative team has in store for the Super Bowl episode when it airs on February 14 following the big game, but thankfully the fun will begin weeks earlier when High Potential season 3 kicks off on January 5 at 8/7c on ABC.
